I'm Advanced

I had my 12 week appointment last week and the baby looks great. They checked for Down Syndrome and MADE me take the blood test due to my Advanced Maternal Age. If I heard that term once I heard it 25 times during the appointment.

The sonogram showed no signs of Downs. I do have to see a specialist around 17 weeks also due to my Advanced Maternal Age, to check all the baby's organs. I am fine with that, because he will be able to tell me what I am having.... a girl. My doctor doesn't tell until 20 weeks, so it pays to be advanced. My mom is scared I will be disappointed if I am having a boy. No way. I obviously love boys. At one point in my life I was boy crazy. I just think it's a girl.

I have had this girl bedding picked out since 2005 and I still LOVE it.

I don't have any nursery ideas for a boy yet. I don't think I'll need them!
To be honest, I was so glad to see my baby and everything looking good so far, but it was extremely humbling too. I know so many people that have had miscarriages or other issues. We may never know this side of Heaven why God's plans are they way they are, but I trust Him. And I have been thanking Him over and over for this baby.

I am praying so hard for you and this little baby.
I have to agree with you: this whole Advanced Maternal Age thing is scary and annoying.

I am hanging in here, still at the hospital.

But I can assure you, that posts, like yours today, make my heart lighter and I can feel hope and thankful for the blog friends I made over the years.

I am really looking forward to see Macy soon.

Ya know I was convinced I was having a girl too! Both times!!! Little Alyssa has yet to grace our presence. ha ha But I am sure God just thinks it is funny to watch me try to figure out these boys daily! Congrats, and when they say GIRL, I already have a plan for something I want to make for her! :)

This post made me laugh. My sister was 37 when she had her daughter. She was considered a "geriatric pregnancy"! We always laugh at this!

And I adore the baby girl room! If I had a girl, this is similar to what I wanted, but I got my classic rock beautiful boy instead! :) Best wishes!

I felt compelled to post here as I was 'AMA' with my first pregnancy (seriously, that's how I was referred to...at age 35) and 'OMIGOD what were you thinking' with the second (age 40). It was suggested that I have an amniocentesis, with all the associated risks of mis-carriage, because of the possible concerns for myself and the baby. Believe me...this caused me more than a couple sleepless nights. Well, I nixed the amnio and had two healthy, happy, flawless pregnancies, deliveries and children. I should have known better, my mother was 42 when she delivered me and I was her one and only. Anywhoo....my point is don't let worries get the better of you---just enjoy. The scariest moment in my second pregnancy was finding out I was having a boy : ) and in hindsight, that was silly too!

advanced maternal age?? I know you are not in your 40's what in the world do they consider advanced maternal age these days???!!

LOVE the bedding- so sweet!

I was POSITIVE I was having a boy- even bought the bedding ahead of time, thinking it was sort of "gender neutral" (bright colors, lots of red) BUT when I found out it was s girl- I returned it and went all feminine and girly (pottery barn!!)

If you need to find a "just in case" pottery barn kids has some cute boy stuff! :)

I'm not worried about you having a boy. (even though I know you'll have a baby girl for Carsyn to play with) Remember how Tony wanted a boy SO BAD? God used Audrey Kate to soften his heart. Now he thinks that baby girl is perfect.

Hooray for a healthy baby!!

Jealous you get to find out so early! I probably won't find out the gender of our baby until 22 weeks. The wait is going to drive me crazy! haha

Such adorable bedding!

Oh I remember those days of "Advanced Maternal Age". I was about to turn 40 when my son was born. And to make it even better my doctor's office had a huge A M A printed on the front of my chart! They will offer you so many tests and screenings.
Love, love the bedding.

You and your baby are in my thoughts and prayers. I am glad everything looks wonderful and I hope that it continues! God is Great! He gave me a perfect blessing 7 years ago and I would graciously adore more. Please enjoy every moment b/c I am learning the hard way that it might not happen again. What I would do to be throwing up my guts again....
God Bless!

So excited for you, Dina. I knew I would have three girls and after two sweet boys, decided God knew better than I exactly what I needed....now I can't imagine being a girl Mom...ha. Either way, it will be exactly what you and Marcus need and want. Can't wait to see that little angel. Take care and get your rest!

You sound JUST like me! I am convinced I am having a girl, but I won't find out for another 6 weeks. I haven't really thought about boy ideas either. =) I'm 12 weeks too! How fun. I love your blog and I'm happy to be having a baby at the same time as you!

Love the bedding as well and congrats!! How exciting! I just knew with our first we were having a boy and sure enough it was. Second one just knew it was a girl. Totally differ experience from the first so I just knew. Bought the bedding and everything. The day of the sonogram was HORRIBLE! It was a healthy baby boy and I was soooo upset and then even more upset because I was so upset. I felt like the worse mommy in the entire world because of it. God had a plan though and my boys are the best buds there ever where. I now can not imagine it any other way....except maybe for a baby sister!;)

Congratulations! Hope all continues to go well with your pregnancy.

I knew I was having a girl, too. I just felt it in my bones. My bones lied. Sorry I called you "Mary Grace" for three months, Henry! LOL

Okay, I had a baby girl in 2007 and I too was of "advanced maternal age". My hubby and I died when my doctor's nurse confided to me that the "insider's term" for that is "GRANDMA SYNDROME".

Isn't that just plain MEAN?

Hubby still teases me about it! :)

Good luck on the sono!
