Hey Smarty Pants!

Katie and I finally got over our colds and were feeling better by Monday, just in time for her to be covered in HIVES!

I took her to the Dr. Monday and again just now, because they got worse. They are not from her fever last week, because they get better after having Benedryl. So it's either a virus or an allergic reaction to something.

My gut feeling is that it's from getting too many mosquito bites on Sunday night. I think her body couldn't handle it. And I was allergic to them when I was little, no hives, just big whelps.

I just wondered if any of you have experienced this with your kids? You all are the smartest, most helpful people I "know"!

Oh and Katie thinks her Dr.'s name is Dr. Pepper!

Poor thing! When I was little and would get covered in mosquito bites, my mom covered me in calamine lotion. I was always streaked in pink! Hope she feels better soon.

LONG time reader - first time commenter {just like a radio station}! Did Katie have a high fever when she was sick? If so, it sounds like it could be Roseola. I think all 4 of my kids have had it, and it still perplexes me because the rash doesn't show up until after the fever breaks and they are feeling so much better. By that time, I think I am in the clear and then the rash freaks me out! Hope she is on the mend!

I'm allergic to mosquitoes, too, and I have to say, I think you probably got welts when you were a kid, not whelps.

I might not mind mosquito bites as much if they came with whelps--'cause hey, free puppies!

I hope Katie feels better soon!

Eli's most common way to react to a virus is with Hives. The first time it happened I was like, "What in the WORLD is THAT???" His make HUGE whelps! But, with Benadryl, they go back down. While he is having hives, Brynne has a stuffed up nose and other symptoms of the virus. The body is so WEIRD!

And I just called them 'WHELPS' too. Ruff, ruff!! :)

Sofia is allergic to Mosquitos and gets giant whelps. About 2 weeks ago, Olivia developed hives that we are 99% sure where related to mosquito bites. (no fever or exposure to anything new.) we gave her Benadryl and used hydrocortisone cream and it did the trick.

Roseola is my vote (aka Sixth Disease). One of my kids had that one time after she had just gotten over a fever, and I freaked out.

Insect bite reactions occur immediately after the bite, and the reaction would be right around the bite...like welts.

I know these things mostly because I have an M.D. In Over Googling. Let me know if you want to enroll. Tuition is very low!

Poor thing! Hope she feels better by the 4th! Can't wait for her and Sophia to play together!

I agree it is probably roseola. Willow Kate had it recently and she started out with a high fever and felt icky and then a few days later had a huge rash!

Hope the hives have cleared up!? No telling with those kids..mine broke out in hives one day and I went crazy trying to think of what they could be! The doc called them "fancy hives" then my daughter went around bragging about how she had "fancy hives." (until I told her it's really not something to be proud about ;) They just went away..hope yours do too!
