Table, Chairs, and Cookies!


 I finished painting my table and chairs. I liked them black, but I am trying to lighten things up a little bit. 
I used Rustoleum Heirloom White spray paint. The pedestal is painted Valspar's Tropical Oasis. I think Rustoleum 2X the coverage, is the best spray paint ever. It covers really well and fast! You can find it at Home Depot. They didn't have a good turquoise color, so I used one from Valspar, at Lowe's.
It's the same color I used for our high chair.

This is the table when it was black:
 I recovered the chairs with fabric I already had. I like it, because it will match my dining room too for when I need extra chairs in there.
 The fabric doesn't have any turquoise in it to match the pedestal, but since I live in a house that Rainbow Bright might think is too colorful, it just goes. 

And I need to take some photography lessons.  When I take pictures without the flash, they are blurry, but with the flash, they GLOW!
 My walls are apple green, not fluorescent green. Promise. 

In other kitchen news...
It's teacher appreciation week! So we made some chocolate chip, m&m cookies to bring to school tomorrow. My sister came over to help, because she makes the best cookies in the world!
And for any of the teachers receiving these tomorrow, Katie has clean hands and only helped scoop a few. No toddler germs were put in your cookies.  I guess I should have put a hair net over that mop though!
Kelly mostly follows the recipe on the chocolate chip bag, but makes a couple of changes that make them heavenly.
She uses 1 stick of butter and 1/2 a cup of crisco
and she adds 1/4 cup of flour to the 2 1/4 cups of flour it already calls for and 1 cup of m&m's.

 This is mostly the Nestle Toll House chocolate chip cookie recipe, but with Kelly's modifications
  • 2 1/2cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1stick of butter, softened and 1/2 cup of Crisco
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups (12-oz. pkg.) chocolate chips and 1 cup of m&m's
 (sometimes Kelly refrigerates her dough before she cooks if, if there's time)
  
PREHEAT oven to 375° F.

COMBINE flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl. Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl until creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in morsels and m&m's. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets.

BAKE for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely.

I usually mess up anything I cook, so it was nice to have an expert in the house.
I hope the teachers like them. I wish I could buy each of them a brand new car, but chocolate chip cookies fit the budget a little better!

Look.. as a teacher, Cookies rank right up there with a new car! :)
